I think the 2nd & 3rd options you presented are probably overkill for what I'm trying to achieve, so I'm going to go the line converter route.

Thanks subterFUSE, I've read a bunch of your posts and I was hoping you might chime in Your knowledge & experience is greatly appreciated!

In order to sum together a stereo, full range signal from the Bose amplifier requires 7 outputs: So those front doors are crossed over well above 40Hz, and would be unsuitable for tapping a sub. I tried testing them with a 40Hz sine wave and the o-scope showed a total flatline. Not even the front door midbass speakers get any sub-bass signal. The only speaker in the Bose system that gets any sub-bass signal is the subwoofer. But they don't get full range signal, either. Those speakers are a 2-way passive midrange & tweeter combination. The Bose amp uses active crossovers on every speaker, with the exception of the rear door speakers. I personally tested every output from the Bose amp with an oscilloscope. Long answer, there are no full range signals coming out of the Bose amplifier. The Bose amp is disconnected and will not operate while the mObridge is in use.ĭoes anyone know if any of the other wires coming out of the Bose amp are full range that I could connect the CleanSweep to?

BOSE CAR EQUALIZER AMPLIFIER UPGRADE

No cutting of Bose wires, it's "plug & play." Completely reversible to stock by simply plugging MOST cable back into Bose amp.ĭisadvantages: You must upgrade the entire car audio system. You can feed that Optical output into your aftermarket gear.Īdvantages: All Digital Solution. It bypasses the Bose amp completely, and then give you a stereo Optical Digital output. The mObridge plugs into the MOST fiber "ring" using the plug from the Bose amplifier. mObridge is a company which builds equipment that interfaces with modern vehicles using the MOST fiber optic system.Īudi, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Range Rover, etc. Adjust the audio to improve the sound.ĭisadvantages: More expensive. They can accept the outputs from the Bose amp, convert the voltage to preamp level, and then offer advanced signal processing such as Crossovers, Time Alignment and/or Phase Adjustment, and EQ.Īdvantages: Powerful signal processing. Most of the modern car audio DSP units have high-level inputs. In other words, a DSP with a Line Converter included. The next option is a DSP processor with high-level inputs. Simpler to setup.ĭisadvantages: Limited functionality. If the signal has EQ applied to it, that EQ will still be applied to the output (just at a lower voltage).Īdvantages: Less expensive. They simply take a signal and change the voltage.

Line converters do not have any DSP processing. That preamp signal can then be fed into audio equipment. It is simply a device that converts the high-voltage signal from an amplifier into a low-voltage "preamp" signal. There are 3 basic choices for integrating aftermarket audio with the MMI/Bose system:Ī line converter is the most basic setup. I would think that connecting RCAs to the speaker wiring pre-Bose amplifier (thus eliminating the equalization & need for a line out converter) would be the cleanest, but I couldn't find any information on that. Does anyone know if any of the other wires coming out of the Bose amp are full range that I could connect the CleanSweep to? I think a less sophisticated line out converter such as an AudioControl LC2i doesn't require a full range input signal, but then the equalization wouldn't be eliminated resulting in a "dirtier" signal. I initially wanted to use a JL Audio CleanSweep connected to the factory subwoofer wiring to eliminate any equalization being performed by the Bose amp, but I see that the input signal to the CleanSweep must be full range which I would presume the subwoofer signal would not be.

BOSE CAR EQUALIZER AMPLIFIER HOW TO

I am in the process of adding an amplifier & subwoofer to the factory Bose system in my 2013 S6, and I can't figure out how to get a clean signal to an amp that only has low level inputs. I know there has been a lot posted on this subject, and I promise I've scoured those posts and the internet for the past two days without finding answers before posting this
